Management system support for Port of Vancouver

Port of Vancouver, the largest port authority in Canada explored potential options to significantly increase container capacity in the lower mainland.

The situation

The Container Capacity Improvement Program (CCIP) is part of the Port’s long-term strategy to deliver projects that will meet the anticipated growth in demand for container capacity in 2030.

Our approach

Advisian’s team was retained and provided Program Management Consultancy services to coordinate the preliminary engineering and planning, environmental assessment and permitting, sustainability, market and concession planning, and communications and consultation. Support included the facilitation of a project sustainability charter, development of commitments and risk registers, definition of roles and responsibilities, legal requirements tracking, stakeholder engagement support, and planning frameworks.

The results

After initial planning and development of a transportation master plan incorporating technical studies to support terminal design and preliminary analysis, a suitable site at Roberts Bank was proposed in order to support a multi-berth container terminal with potential capacity of nearly 2.5 million twenty-foot equivalent units per year to meet forecast demand until 2028.
