Advisian has been selected to develop the Strategic Infrastructure and Land Plan for Western Australia’s Marine Complex (AMC) and Henderson Precinct. The plan will identify ways to grow WA’s defence industry and become a key sector in the local economy.
The challenge
The Australian Marine Complex (AMC) and Henderson Precinct, located near Perth, Western Australia, is home to the country’s largest marine industry. It was originally established to support opportunities that were created by clustering sectors that service the marine, defence and resources industries. Within the AMC, the Henderson Shipbuilding Precinct is Australia’s largest and includes a stretch of land with common user facilities, including jetties, berths and ship lifts. The Western Australian Government is keen to understand how it can be better utilised to support shipbuilding and ship maintenance, as well as other marine activities associated with large-scale industrial projects and defence in the future. As such, they sought a partner to develop a Strategic Infrastructure and Land Use Plan for the precinct.
Our solution
Advisian was selected to develop the Strategic Infrastructure and Land Use Plan in consultation with existing industry and government. There will be a number of stages to this project, beginning with a data collection phase. Extensive and ongoing stakeholder consultations will occur with other State Government Agencies, local councils, industry, land owners and ship builders to determine their current and future needs. Existing conditions will then be rated against these needs with options developed to bridge the divide. A draft plan will then be issued to stakeholders for further consultation, before the final plan is delivered, with recommendations covering 0-2 years, 2-5 years, and 5-10 years and beyond.
